Illustration friday - Space

Still in the pig-drawing-mood, I made this one for Illustration Friday. This week's topic is "space"

This little piggy is considering if he has enough space for one last muffin after eating a whole tray of muffins already. As you can see, his brother doesn't quite approve. Were you wondering where the third piggy is? Well, he's building a brick house of course!

three little pigs

I'm finally wrapping up the illustrations (16 pages!) for flying books.

These three little pigs are keeping me busy! But I don't mind, because they sort of grew on me. I got to know them better and they sure are three totally different characters! I love all three of them. Wich one of the three piggies do you like best?

Feet sketch

My feet and toes won't ever win a beauty contest and they know it in their own crooked way. However I do paint their nails in bright colours regularly and they always come in handy for a quick sketch!

Sketchcrawl

Sketching can be done anywhere. I love sketching in public. Doing quick drawings of people. It's a great way to train in drawing quickly and getting the posture, clothing or hair right in just a few lines. I always carry a small moleskine with me so I'm able to draw and train anywhere, anytme. especially when waiting for something, even just a few minutes, the small sketchbook comes in very handy.
Then again, it can also be so nice to take more time to draw in public and pay more attention to details. And better yet: to do this with others! That's why I'm organizing the SketchCrawl on juli 14 in Amsterdam! Care to join? Please do!! Go here for details and to RSVP. While you're at it, you can 'like' me on Facebook!
The SketchCrawl is originally initiated by Enrico Casarosa and is organized in different cities all over the world.

tough cookie in Colour

Yesterday evening, instead of unwinding and being a couch potato, I worked on the tough cookie drawing in colour. It's in coloured pencils and it's not finished yet, but I'm on the right track, although the shape of the cookie is a bit skewed. ah well, that's the hand of the artist!

Illustration Friday - secret #2

I made another one for Illustration Friday's topic 'secret'.
A friend of mine told me about this collaboration and project and somehow I came up with this: a clown with a secret... it's just a quick one because I need to unplug and unwind for the night.

Illustration Friday - secret

This week's theme for Illustration Friday is 'secret'

But more importantly: on saturday July 14,  the Global Sketchcrawl is organized in many cities around the world! Will you be joining us in Amsterdam? Click here to join!

little pigs

As you can see I'm still working on the story of the three little pigs, for Flying Books.
Most of the drawings in pencil are done. I decided to digitally colour my drawings. This is where the story starts:

About a week ago it was very windy! This is the drawing I made in my daily drawing journal  that evening.

illustration Friday - Shiny

As I'm still working on the story of the three little pig I'll keep this as a theme up for Illustration Friday this week, just like I did last week
I took the liberty to change the original text a bit for the occasion. This way the illustration fits into Illustration Friday's topic of this week" Shiny
...

Just as he arranged the tulips in a shiny new dotted vase, his brother ran into the house and slammed the door. 'The big bad wolf is coming this way!"

imax theatre

Yesterday night I went to the imax theatre. Those 3Dglasses they hand out at the entrance are so charming!

tough cookie

I came up with this last night after a frustrating few hours of not getting anything done - not even just relaxing. I want to draw this cookie with coloured pencils so I can add colour of course and more depth.

Illustration Friday - hurry!

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is 'Hurry!'
Because I'm currently working on the story 'The Three Little Pigs' I made it easy for myself this week and combined the two...
I think though, that I should draw the wolf a bit smaller and further away in perspective

3 little pigs character sketches

Finally there's time to get to the story of The Three Little Pigs I was asked to illustrate for Flying e-books!

I made this sketch in februari already, but when I started working on the assignment again, I decided the pigs needed an outfit or at least one piece of clothing to help them give some more personality each.

On the first page, the three little pigs are to leave home and their mom is telling them to do the best they can
I won't be actually be using this drawing in the story, but it was fun to think about what each pig would carry along. i think this pig actually needs to be a bit fatter

yep that's a beauty case alright!

I bet you can guess which pig will built the strongest house!

journal page

I'm so happy with the brush pen I bought! It came in the mail last week and I made these quick drawings with it, adding watercolour afterwards.

published recipes

The editors of the Dutch magazine Jansen commissioned me to fill this their six pages culinairy section for their June issue. I was very happy with this assignment, because they found my recipes on They Draw And Cook and found my travel journal pages of New York right here on my blog and asked me to combine those two styles for their issue theme 'Long live the city'. Today after work I rushed off to the shop and found the magazine on the shelves. It looks awesome in print!

If you want to have a closer look: here are the originals:

Drawing on Global Sketchbook Project Day

Today is Global Sketchbook Project Day. We can draw together and work on our sketchbook anywhere in the world, and anyone can join. How cool is that?
If you want to see how it worked out in Amsterdam you can have a look on my Facebook page. And while you're at it... 'like' me there!

After the meet-up I went on drawing, because I had to finish some homework for Pikaland artist bootcamp 'Making Your Mark'
For this week's assignment we needed to draw (in different styles) a chair that would kind of represent our characters. These are the results for my chair

 FYI
When we moved into a bigger apartment about 3 years ago, we needed some extra furniture to fit in there. We invested in buying 6 beautiful and comfortable dining table chairs with a tube frame and covered with corduroy - each chair a different colour. I've loved the design of these chairs forever. Originally the design is from the Dutch designer Willem Hendrik Gispen. He made beautiful designs from the 1920's to the 1980's. to buy 6 chairs from his design would be way too large of an investment, so we chose wonderful second hand chairs from the Belgian brand Tubax. Close enough!
The chair is elegant, comfortable, flexible and strong, reliable, durable, timeless and colorful and could match many different interiors. Well... would that be me? I guess at least part of it is a match!
