I felt kind of lucky with such a neat first entry
in my toned paper sketchbook. Later that week, I carved out a little bit of time and found a street bench where I sat down to draw the bicycle that was in front of me. I got totally absorbed by the negative spaces, the shades and complex shapes and forgot about the possibility that the bicycle would be parked there forever. So it took me by surprise when the owner of the bike walked up and wheeled my subject away before I finished drawing it.
There are many bicycles in Amsterdam actually that look like this: with one of the wheels snatched off. So the drawing doesn't even stand out that much. But next time, I might better choose to draw a bicycle like that!
